TIM Davies was crowned senior sports personality of the year at the 21st annual Brecknock and Radnorshire sports partnership annual awards.

The awards brought together the great and good of South Powys sport for an official celebration of achievement at Brecon’s Theatr Brycheiniog last month.

Rhayader’s Tim Davies went home with the award in recognition of his excellent campaign on the saddle which saw the Welshpool born rider end second in the national veteran cycle cross championships with 699 points.

Rhayader motocross starlet Alex Walton won the young sportsperson of the year award while Brecon kick boxer Ellie Cain won the junior accolade and Brecon taekwondo star Leif Thobroe with the disabled sports personality award.

Rhayader Town Football Club junior coach Matthew Lewis was named coach of the year while Brecon’s Harrison Clayton was recognised with the young sports leader accolade and Brecon area cricket coach Terry Dickson with a volunteer of the year award.

Llandrindod Wells Dragons Gymnastics Club scooped the club of the year award while Presteigne Ladies Hockey Club was named senior team of the year and Presteigne Colts under 11s football side the junior team of the year.

Presteigne bowler Bill Weale received the outstanding service to sport award for his services to bowls.

Powys County Councillor Rachel Powell said: “The awards are a wonderful celebration of sport in Brecknock and Radnorshire.”
