TWO rising martial arts stars both medalled gold in major international and national events this month.

Montgomery’s Rhys Handel celebrated his first gold at the Hermee Cup in Belgium last weekend while nine year old Halle Vaughan from Caersws has successfully defended both her Welsh and WKU British titles while adding the North West Championship to a growing list of honours.

Handel, trained by Alan and Sue Jones of AJ Judo in Welshpool, claimed gold in his first international event and secured a place at the British Team Championships in Cardiff.

Meanwhile nine year old Vaughan continues to reach for the stars.

The talented youngster starred at the Welsh Championship, defending her age grade crown at 8-9 level and also coming home with two bronze medals.

Vaughan also defended her WKU British Championship belt while adding the North West Under 12s Championship title in both kumite and kata.

Vaughan is preparing for the WKU World Championship in Athens in October when she will look to defend another title.

The talented youngster thanked her Sensei Matthew Hyndman and sponsors Jason and Becky Jones at X-Angelus Studios in Llanidloes while any other potential sponsors are asked to contact 07824447945 or vauno@outlook.com.
