MORE than 400 children took part in the annual cross country races held at Maesydre fields in Welshpool.

The Year 6 girls race was won by Llanrhaeadr’s Ffion Suckley-Jones from Llanfechain’s Francis North and Montgomery’s Sophia Turner while Jack Tinney of Carreghofa won the boys race with Llanfair Caereinion’s Rhyd Edwards and Tomm Dyson of Buttington Trewern leading the challenge.

Llandysilio’s Evie Foster won the Year 5 race with Buttington’s Mackenzie Court and Lucy Tomkins of Dyffryn Banw completing the podium while Llanrhaeadr’s Evan Roberts won the boys race from Carreghofa’s Charlie Owen and Llanfair’s Nathan Williams.

Buttington’s Alice Jones won the Year 4 girls race with Llanfechain’s Hesta North denying Ruby Price a Buttington top two.

Llanfair’s Gruff Hamer won the boys race with Carreghofa’s Finley Dickson ending second.

Meanwhile Llanfechain’s Eva Bartlan won the Year 3 girls race with Pennant’s Hannah Medi Davies fending off Rosa Skipper of Llangedwyn for second while Josh Williams beat Buttington classmate Evan Davies to top spot in the boys race with Llandysilio’s Jude White in third.
