NEWTOWN’S Maldwyn Leisure Centre hosted the Powys High School boys under 12 and under 14s tournament last month.

The event saw schools from across the county send their representative sides to the state of the art pitch and produced a high standard of competition.

Llanfair Caereinion won the under 12s event with Welshpool being crowned under 14s champions.

Both sides progressed to the Welsh Schools boys final held at Maldwyn Leisure Centre last week which saw the regional winners from across Wales in action.

Sport Powys development officer Katie Hamer was delighted with the success of the event and hoped it would lead to more boys playing the sport in future.

Hamer said: “More than 80 boys played with teams from Caereinion, Welshpool, Newtown and Llanidloes.

“It was a great day developing boys’ hockey in North Powys.”
