THE beginning of spring was marked with the opening round of the Trailertechuk.com Youth Hare and Hounds series at Rhayader on Sunday.

The series has become a popular mart of the Rhayader Motorcycle Club calendar with emerging riders testing their skills throughout the series.

The novice class opened the day with Reuben Price setting the pace before being passed by fellow Builth Wells rider Ryan Jones to take the flag with both completing 12 laps.

The 85cc winner was Euan Edmunds while Charlie Walker took the honours in the 50cc class.

Sam Bridgewater took glory in the 50cc fun class while Brianna King of Llandrindod Wells took top honours in the trials bike class.

A second event for the more experienced youths featured a much longer course.

Mathew Harries and Carwyn Rosser set a frantic pace in the 125cc class, swapping the lead several times with barely a few yards between them before Harries edged glory by just over 20 seconds.

In the 85cc class Trystan Williams and Tomos Wright both completed 16 laps with Williams taking the flag while Sion Evans managed an extra lap in to beat Endaf Hughes in the small wheel class.

Llandrindod Wells’ Sion Wright pipped Alfie Davies by just under a minute to win the 65 class with Rees Jones of Llanidloes claiming third.

Llanidloes’’ Oliver Bebb fended off Harrison Rees to win the Auto 50 class.

The next round will be held on Sunday, June 17.
