MORE than 400 children from 35 schools across Powys took part in the second annual Powys Primary School Cross Country in Builth Wells.

Crickhowell’s Betsy Johnson led home Llanidloes’ Eva Jones and Llanfechain’s Eva Bartlan to win the Year 3 girls’ race with Josh Williams of Buttington Trewern seeing off the challenge of Builth Wells’ Rhys Powell and Llanidloes’ Xander Brandon Higgs in the boys’ event.

Llanidloes’ Maddie Hughes won the Year 4 girls’ race with Charlotte Lewis of Clyro and Llanfechain’s Hesta North completing the podium while Gruff Hamer of Llanfair beat Llandysilio’s Ollie Price and Llangynidr’s Michael Mason in the boys’ race.

Cradoc’s Ruby Herdman beat Llandysilio’s Evie Foster and Llanidloes’ Molly Edwards to lead home the Year 5 girls while Llanrhaeadr’s Evan Roberts beat Llangynidr’s Oliver Powell and Crickhowell’s Arthur Thomas to win the boys’ race.

Ffion Suckley-Jones of Llanrhaeadr won the Year 6 girls’ race with Bro Hyddgen pair Olivia Garrod and Isabel Owen in pursuit while Carreghofa’s Jack Tinney beat Builth’s Cian Evans and Buttington’s Tom Dyson to triumph in the boys’ event.
