NEWTOWN’S hopes for silverware were ended by Dysynni who prevailed 2-0 winners in the final of the North Wales Women’s League Cup on Saturday.

On a sweltering day in Welshpool it was Newtown who started the brighter with a flurry of early chances only to be denied by goalkeeper Michelle Lewis.

Newtown were also frustrated by the umpire when Nia Jones’ effort was ruled out on the stroke of half-time.

The Tywyn side made the most of their reprieve and broke the deadlock early in the second-half when Amelia Dunn cut inside from the right wing to fire home.

Newtown remained in contention and enjoyed several spells of possession before Dysynni sealed glory through Jo Redman’s deflected strike from a penalty corner.

Town continued to battle for a rout back into the game and laid siege to the Dysynni goal for the remainder of the game but could not find a way back.

Spokesperson Shelley Jones said: “On any other day the goals would of come for Town eventually but it just wasn’t our day.

“It’s a disappointing result and end to the season but it has been a good year for the club with the development of youngsters.”

Jones insisted the future was bright for the club with the next generation already underlining their potential this season.”

Jones said: ““This season was the first at senior level for Millie Jones, Nia Williams, Chloe Hamer and Nia Jones and along with Tayla Trigg and Ruth Jenkins, these girls will form an integral part of the team going forward.”
