NAVID Childs has spoken of his injury battle and thanked his brother for his support.

The Childs brothers, originally of Newtown, have enjoyed long and successful athletics careers with Navid winning the European Veterans Championship triple jump title in 2017 while younger brothers Seriashe and Richardo have both won Welsh and GB vests in 100m and long jump.

Navid sustained a knee injury while training at Cardiff Sports Centre with Seriashe on hand to rush him to hospital for treatment.

Navid has targeted a return to fitness following his operation while thanking his brother and the rest of his family for their support.

Seriashe has also overcome injury and several years ago needed an operation to remove a benign tumour from his foot.

Despite their long careers the Childs brothers are among the majority of athletes across the United Kingdom who do not receive financial aid or professional coaching with resources often enough invested invested in a smaller pool of talent.

However Childs has targeted a return to fitness and sworn to continue his lifelong love of sporting competition which began at Penygloddfa School.
