MORE than 200 people took part in the annual Chocoholics 5K event in Newtown on Friday.

The Easter event is organised by Maldwyn Harriers Athletics Club and among the most popular in the calendar while also representing the start of the new summer season.

This year a 5k run was organised along with a fun run for younger runners with both utilising the facilities at Maldwyn Leisure Centre.

Both events were well contested as athletes young and old took a break from their Easter festivities to take on the course at Maldwyn Leisure Centre.

The Chocoholics 5K starts the Maldwyn Harriers’ summer programme.

Next month the Newtown 10K and Fun Run takes centre stage on May 13 before the Gregynog Trail Race in Tregynon on June 3.

The Newtown BBQ 5K and Fun Run takes place on July 6 before the club summer season winds down with the Neil Howells Memorial Race and Fun Run on August 17.
