MACHYNLLETH Pool League held its finals day at the town’s Y Plas centre last month.

Following a successful winter league season the stars of the area’s baize descended on the historical centre for their end of season showpiece.

The Rugby Club won the first division title with an unbeaten campaign while the White Horse galloped to second division honours.

The Rugby Club maintained its remarkable campaign by winning the league cup with an 8-3 win over the White Lion.

However the Rugby Club was denied a clean sweep with the Dwynant recording an 8-5 win to lift the Dai Wyn Division One Cup.

Meanwhile the Rugby Club’s Mark Gaskell beat the White Lion’s Osian Lewis 5-2 to be crowned first division singles champion while also topping the divisional averages for the season.

Lewis was consoled with the pairs crown alongside White Lion team-mate Mike Jones who beat Dai Owen and Gareth Ian Evans of the Tredegar Arms 5-3 in the final.

Meanwhile the Dwynant overcame the White Horse 8-2 to win the Consolation Cup.

The White Horse won the Corey Rowlands Division Two Cup with an 8-3 win over Foz A.

Llanbrynmair’s Ed Jones also enjoyed a memorable finals day after the Wynnstay player beat Meleri Corfield of the Fantastic Fozzers 3-0 to be crowned division two singles champion.

Jones teamed up with Alwyn Jones to beat Karen Davies and Mike Jones of Slaters of Corris 3-1 to take the doubles crown.

Meanwhile Dai Owen of Tywyn’s Tredegar Arms won the Open Singles following a 2-1 win over the Rugby Club’s Aron James.

Gareth Ian Evans of the Tredegar Arms teamed up with Owen Glyn of the White Horse to overcome Dai Owen of the Tredegar and Meilyr Evans of the White Horse to win the Open Mixed Doubles crown.

The Marston Skinners Arms also won their end of season promotion/relegation play-off match against Foz A to retain their top flight status.

“Congratulations to the Rugby Club on their success and of course the White Horse in winning the second division, as well as all the individual winners at the finals.”

The Machynlleth Summer Pool League will be starting this month with all new applications encouraged.
