CARWYN Owen maintained his impressive rise by representing Wales at the SIAB and Home Countries Cross Country in Nottingham last weekend.

The Montgomery based Maldwyn Harrier took on a challenging Wollaston Hall course against the best young cross country athletes in Britain in the Schools International Athletics Board (SIAB) event.

Owen represented Team Wales in the inter boys race and crossed the line in 19th place overall with a time of 21:10 to help his country claim a team bronze.

The event was run alongside the Home Countries International with athletes representing Wales, Scotland and Ireland while the English contingent represented regional squads from the north, midlands and south east.

Former Llanidloes High School student Joseph Crutchley represented Wales with the Cardiff Athletics Club youngster ending 19th in the junior men’s race with a time of 27:55.
