NEWTOWN marked the end of their league campaign with a 3-0 derby victory at home to Welshpool.

The match was played in bitterly cold conditions as both sides looked to end the North Wales Women’s League One season on a high.

Welshpool goalkeeper Gez Charles was kept busy early on before the pressure told midway through the first-half as a deflected strike from Jacqui Loxam found the net.

Newtown doubled their lead before the break with Karen Lewis slotting home after good work from Heidi Langford on the right wing.

It was left to ex-Welshpool ace Loxam to complete her brace in the second-half as Newtown ended the match on top while leaving Welshpool to sweat on relegation.

Meanwhile Llanfair Caereinion completed their first season back in the top flight with a 2-2 draw at home to Pwllheli.

Goals from Mary Griffiths and Ellen Jones ensured a point for Llanfair and settle a top five finish.

Elsewhere Presteigne slumped 2-0 at title chasing Penarth and remain on the cusp of relegation from division one of the South Wales Women’s Premier League.

However Radnor remained in the hunt for second division honours with a 4-0 win at home to lowly Rhondda.

Hayley Price starred with a brace while Llinos Samuel and Kirsty Prosser strikes ensured Radnor remained hot on the heels of leaders Milford Haven.

Meanwhile Newtown lost 3-2 at home to Wolverhampton in the first division of the West Midlands Men’s League.

Goals from Connor and Aodhan O’Keegan were not enough for the Mid Wales side as a James Swash double and Ben Benton effort edged Wolverhampton the spoils at Maldwyn Leisure Centre.
