POWYS’ top athletes were in action at the Welsh Indoor Championships in Cardiff.

Welshpool’s Adele Nicoll stormed to a gold medal in the women’s shot with her distance of 15.08m ensuring a comfortable margin of victory.

Newtown’s Sian Swanson also claimed a gold medal in the women’s triple jump with an effort of 11.51 while Newtown’s Navid Childs also claimed men’s triple jump gold with a leap of 14.36m.

Llanidloes’ Lauren Williams claimed a silver in the women’s 400m with a time of 58.00 with the Swansea Harrier Athletics Club star recognised as a rising star by being nominated for her club’s junior sportswoman of the year award.

Williams also came second in the Montgomeryshire senior sports personality of the year awards last week, further underlining her emergence as one of Powys’ most exciting talents.
