Newtown 3

Prestatyn Town 0

NEWTOWN ended their home programme with victory over relegated Prestatyn Town.

Latham Park was basked in sunshine as an Ethan Jones double and a third from player of the season Kieran Mills-Evans saw players and management depart to a standing ovation.

Prestatyn carved the first real opening inside the opening 10 minutes only for home goalkeeper Dave Jones to bravely save at the feet of Ben Maher.

Jones comfortably denied Zyaac Edwards from distance before Ryan Sears blocked Macauley Taylor’s shot.

Newtown came into the game with Craig Williams delivering dangerous crosses which Alex Fletcher and Jones both failed to capitalise.

The hosts maintained their superiority and ended the half on top with Sears steering a header over from Ryan Kershaw’s cross before Jay Denny volleyed wide.

The second-half began with the visitors refreshed with Edwards’ shot deflected wide in the opening seconds.

However Newtown soon led with the inform Jones fed by Fletcher on the left before cutting inside and firing home via the inside of the woodwork.

Prestatyn looked to have mustered an immediate reply only for Zebb Edwards to be ruled offside after converting a free-kick from Ross Stephens.

Newtown settled down and soon reasserted themselves and laid siege on the visiting goal.

The possession finally told when the Prestatyn defence was breached from a long throw from Williams flicked on by Mills-Evans for Jones to lash home.

Newtown should have put the game to bed with 15 minutes remaining after a moment of madness from Tom Kemp who threw Sears to the turf in the build up to a corner.

However Jones spurned the penalty with goalkeeper Carl Jones denying the ex-Shrewsbury Town striker his hat-trick.

Newtown continued to dominate with Nick Rushton and Tom Goodwin going close before Mills-Evans capped a fine season by heading home a free-kick from Fletcher late on.
