Bow Street 4

Welshpool Town 3

IFAN Burrell left it late to net a late winner against Welshpool Town for Bow Street to lift the Spar Mid Wales League Cup at Carno.

Street chairman Wyn Lewis described the trophy as the “holy grail” after the club ended losing finalists on four previous occasions.

Welshpool broke the deadlock inside the opening five minutes with Adam Davies heading home,

However Street hit back to level through Llion Jenkins before an own goal and left foot strike from Tom Williams gave the Magpies a two goal cushion.

Welshpool goalkeeper Dave Littleford kept his side in the game with several vital saves before Davies reduced the arrears on half-time.

Pool completed their fightback with 25 minutes remaining with Ricky Litchfield capitalising on a defensive lapse to steer home.

Both sides had spells of pressure and the final hung in the balance before Ryan Evans earned his marching orders for Pool.

Five minutes from time Burrell found room in the area to slot under Littleford and spark scenes of jubilation.

Manager Barry Williams said: “The goal at the end brought both relief and joy. I am so delighted for all involved with the club and cannot compliment the players enough for their efforts this season.

Chairman Wyn Lewis added: “We have waited a long time for this cup which has become our holy grail. After the heartache of four lost finals this victory is sweet.”
