MARC Griffiths led by example as Llanrhaeadr celebrated a 4-3 win over Welshpool Town to be crowned Spar Mid Wales League One champions at Tanllan on Saturday.

The top of the table clash saw the hosts break the deadlock through Iwan Matthews inside the opening quarter before Ian Probert restored parity by the interval.

Player-manager Griffiths struck twice as Llanrhaeadr hit the ground running after the break.

Will Thomas reduced the arrears from the penalty spot for Welshpool only for Llanrhaeadr to restore their two goal cushion through Joe Vaughan.

Ricky Litchfield struck at the death for Welshpool but it was too late to prevent the hosts being crowned champions.

Griffiths said: “I’m over the moon for the players more than anything.

“We have managed to keep a core of players over the last three seasons and have become very tight knit group of friends on and off the field.

“That makes this success and league title all the more special for us all.”

Llanidloes Town maintained their hopes of ending second with Josh Hartrick netting twice in a 3-1 win at home to inform Tywyn Bryncrug.

Pete Rees completed the scoring with George Richards reducing the arrears.

Jac Petrie scored twice as Carno returned to winning ways following a slump in form with a 2-0 win over Radnor Valley whose Radnorshire Cup hangover continued.

Llandrindod Wells maintained their revival with goals from Robbie Nicholls and Kieran McCarley settling a 2-0 win at home to Berriew.

Meanwhile Aberaeron celebrated a hard-fought 2-0 win at home to Llanfair United with Liam Jacques breaking the deadlock before being impeded in the area for Mattie Davies to settle the outcome from the penalty spot.

Elsewhere Knighton Town proved a class apart from relegated Borth United with Connor Bird’s hat-trick inspiring an 8-0 rout at Bryn-Y-Castell.

Adam Farmer and Sam Williams both netted braces with Chris Roff completing the drubbing.

Meanwhile Churchstoke handed Bow Street a fright before the Magpies salvaged a 3-3 draw at Cae Piod.

Churchstoke led three times with goals from Joe Haycock, Andrew Green and Neil Yapp cancelled out by Tom Evans, Steff Richards and a last gasp leveller from Llion Jenkins.
