Wales' women kept their world cup qualification hopes on track with a 1-0 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina last night.

A goal in the 62nd minute from Kayleigh Green was enough for Wales, who are yet to concede a goal in qualifying, to ease past Bosnia and leapfrog England at the top of the group.

Minutes earlier, Green had been clattered in the penalty area by Melisa Hasanbegovic but saw her spot-kick saved after picking herself up off the Liberty Stadium turf to take it.

Newtown academy starlet Carrie Jones had been called up to the Wales senior squad for the first time but was not named amongst the substitutes.

Record appearance-holder Jess Fishlock earned her 110th cap and showed touches of brilliance in a closely-fought encounter.

Her weaving run in first half stoppage time looked certain to break the deadlock, but Bosnia 'keeper Envera Hasanbegovic saved well at her feet to preserve her clean sheet.

Green's penalty miss suggested a potentially frustrating night was in store for Wales, but they maintained the pressure and were rewarded just past the hour mark when Green pounced on a loose ball to volley into the back of the net to spark wild celebrations.

All eyes turn to Moscow this evening as England could re-take top spot when they take on Russia at the Sapsan Arena.

However Wales face third placed Russia in Newport on Tuesday ahead of a showdown final game with England in August, knowing that wins in both games would see them qualify regardless of other results.
