NEWTOWN Wanderers take on Trefonen in the final of the Mid Wales Trophies Consolation Cup in Llangedwyn tonight (Thursday).

The match represents the biggest in the Newtown club’s eight year history with hopes high it will act as a springboard for further success with the club ambitious to bring Mid Wales League football back to the town.

Spokesman Dafydd Evans said: “This is the first cup final for Newtown Wanderers since its formation in 2010.

“The fact that we’re in the final is of no surprise to us as we’ve been getting stronger as a team as the season progressed to the latter stages.

“We have had a bit of a rollercoaster of a season in terms of performance but the quality was always there.

“We are an ambitious club and we aim to get even stronger as we build for next season when promotion will be the target.”
