MID Wales’ three under 16s girls football internationals attended an end of season ceremony at Newport’s Celtic Manor last weekend.

Llanidloes’ Maria Francis-Jones was joined by Newtown duo Libby Isaac and Carrie Jones in receiving their national team caps.

The presentation marked a superb year for the trio who have represented Mid Wales in the national under 16s set-up this season.

The trio helped Wales lift the Bob Docherty Cup last summer and have continued their development this season.

Francis-Jones and Jones will now step up to the under 17s age group while Isaac will continue her development with the under 16s for another season.

The trio have emerged trail blazers for the next generation of aspiring young players.

Wales and Liverpool legend Ian Rush said: “You will get ups and downs. I’ve certainly had plenty and there’s more to come.

“Only the most resilient and hard working players get to the top of the game. If you have those qualities, you won’t go far wrong. Never forget your dream. Believe in it and work hard at it.”
