CARNO Football Club hosts a cup final double header on Saturday.

Llansantffraid Village take on Montgomery Town in the final of the ER Jenkins Cup at 2pm before Bow Street and Welshpool Town clash in the Spar Mid Wales League Cup Final at 5pm with a bumper crowd expected to descend on Ty Brith.

Carno spokesman Chris Davies said: “We’d like to thank the league for the opportunity to host two major finals.

“The pitch is in good condition and no doubt there will be some good football on display. We wish all the teams good luck.”

Welshpool Town spokesman Dean Gill said: “It promises to be a great game and hopefully we can end the season with a cup.”

Street manager Barry Williams backed his side to break their duck following five final defeats.

‘I am proud of the players and fellow management team,” said Williams. “We beat a good Llanfair side in the semi but will have to significantly increase our level of performance against a Welshpool side who have had an excellent season.”

Llansantffraid manager Ray Jones accepted his side would be strong favourites but warned against underestimating Montgomery in the ER Jenkins Cup Final.

“Promotion was the aim at the start of the season and anything else would be a bonus,” said Jones. “No final is ever easy and we expect a tough game against Montgomery.”

Monty manager Lee Jones insisted his side could complete an upset.

“It’s been a few years since Montgomery have been in a final so we are all looking forward to it,” said the club stalwart. “We’ve beat all the top teams in our league this season in various competitions so I don’t see any reason why we can’t win on Saturday.”
