KERRY completed their clean sweep of honours with the Mid and North Powys League under 16s cup at Latham Park on Friday.

Tommy Rowlands broke the deadlock against a stubborn Welshpool Town before a sensational overhead kick from Edward Bennett-Jones completed a 2-0 victory to add the league cup to the league championship and Quartix Winter League trophies already won this season.

“It was a fantastic end to what was not only a brilliant season but also what has been a brilliant few years,” said coach Clive Jones.

“It was the last time a lot of these lads will get the chance to play together so it was a fitting end. Thank you to everyone who supported us over the years and to everyone who has helped out along the way.”

Welshpool coach Awi Williams heaped praise on his side while crediting Kerry as deserved treble winners.

“A lot of our lads are under 15 and playing against an older Kerry side who were the better team on the night,” said Williams. “However our lads were superb and showed great unity to grow into the game against a very good Kerry side.”

League spokesman Ian Pawley praised both sides following a high quality season.

Player numbers in the lower age groups are on the rise and we look forward to seeing those players progress up to under 16 level.

“We also look forward to watching players move on to youth and potentially senior football and wish them all the bst in their careers.

“We are thankful for all the hard work of the players, parents, coaches and clubs, especially when you factor in the bad winter in January and February.”
