TNS Football Club’s community foundation has teamed up with the Football Association of Wales (FAW) to boost girls football provision in Montgomeryshire.

Weekly girls football sessions will take place at Welshpool Community Centre every Monday with a cost of £2 per player.

TNS community foundation spokesman Naomi Stocker said: “We want to encourage as many young people to attend as possible. The initiative really is fantastic.

Meanwhile the Saints have also signalled their intentions to branch out across Mid and North East Wales.

Projects are set for launch in Rhiwabon and Llanfyllin as TNS Football Club aim to increase female participation in football.

“The projects aim is to increase female participation in football from the age of 12,” said Stocker.

“The sessions will be fun and youth club based where young girls will get a nice relaxed introduction to football and associated activities such as soccersize and keep fit.”

Girls football is currently on the grow in Mid Wales following several years in the doldrums.

While Llanfair United are the only Montgomeryshire club associated to a league the efforts of Berriew, Llanidloes and Llandrindod Wells to establish girls sections have offered renewed opportunities for young players.
