FORDEN United booked their place in the semi-finals of the Emrys Morgan Cup with a 3-1 win at Newcastle.

The Montgomeryshire League side enjoyed a dream start at the Mill Field with early strikes from Kieran Evans and Darryl Jones giving them the edge.

Forden had one foot in the semi-finals when Mike Henderson-Smith swept home on the stroke of half-time following a great counter attack from the visitors.

However the second-half began in frenetic fashion with Forden reduced to 10 men with the dismissal of Darryl Jones with the resulting penalty from Calum Evans reducing the arrears.

The remainder of the match saw the 10 men of Forden dig in and frustrate their hosts on a growing quagmire of a pitch to celebrate glory.

Proud manager Jonny Roberts said: “I couldn’t be more proud of the boys. It was a phenomenal performance by each one of them, none of them let me down.

“We’re looking forward to the semi-final now and hopefully a shot at the trophy.

“Also a big congratulations to fellow Montgomeryshire representatives Four Crosses on reaching the semi finals.”

Meanwhile Four Crosses needed extra-time to see off Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth League One side Tregaron Turfs.

A well contested clash saw Crosses break the deadlock with Ben Simms following up to net after Kyle Wilson’s 30 yard free-kick was only parried by the home goalkeeper.

However the Turfs soon responded with Melfyn Davies firing beyond Crosses goalkeeper Dan Wood to ensure the tie went into extra-time.

Crosses wasted little time in restoring their lead with Wilson releasing Simms to cut inside and blast home from 25 yards in the first minute of extra-time.

With both sides tiring on a heavy pitch the visitors almost extended their lead only for Jack Jones’ effort to skim the bar.

However Crosses had already done enough to secure their place in the semi-finals and maintain their bid for silverware under manager Mike Barton.

Barton said: “This was a fantastic battling performance against a physical team. I am very pleased with the way we stood up to it.pleased to be in the semi final.”

The remaining quarter-final ties between Newcastle Emlyn and Ffostrasol Wanderers and Lampeter Town’s home clash with Felinfach were postponed.
