Caersws 0 Caernarfon Town 2

CAERSWS paid the price for a poor start at the Recreation Ground as Caernarfon Town struck twice to clinch promotion to the J D Welsh Premier.

It proved a nightmare afternoon for the villagers with goalkeeper David Jones injured in the warm up before Luke Evans was forced off through injury.

Ryan Davies donned the goalkeeper’s jersey with the villagers already chasing a two goal deficit after conceding twice in the opening 10 min

Caernarfon led inside the opening five minutes with Nathan Craig’s free-kick steered home by Rhys Roberts at the second attempt.

Evans produced a fine save to push away a 20 yard free-kick from dangerman Craig but Caernarfon soon doubled their lead with Darren Thomas firing through a crowded area from Craig’s resulting corner.

Caersws supporters feared the worst when Evans was forced off the field with defender Davies taking over in the home goal in the aftermath.

However Davies excelled and kept his side in the game with a brave save at the feet of Gareth Evans before smothering another piledriver from Craig.

Caernarfon continued to press but Davies remained unbeaten with saves to deny Joe Williams and Danny Brookwell to earn the plaudits of both sets of supporters.

It was a similar story after the break as Caernarfon looked to put the game to bed.

Former Newtown youngster Jamie Breese cut inside from the left only to lash only the woodwork from 12 yards while Shaun Cavanagh’s goal bound shot was blocked in a packed area as Caersws held out.

Caernarfon continued to dominate but the home goal continued to be stubbornly defended while the assured Davies also made a handful of saves.

Caersws and Davies were indebted to the woodwork late on with Jamie Crowther heading onto the bar before the full time whistle sounded and sparked celebrations from the visiting contingent as their promotion to the top flight was confirmed.
