PENRHYNCOCH take on Gresford Athletic in the second round of the Huws Gray Cup on Saturday (2.30).

The clash has been switched to Aberystwyth Town’s Park Avenue ground with Cae Baker being used for a football festival.

Manager Gari Lewis insisted the 3G pitch would be like a second home to his players.

“We train at Park Avenue and while not ideal switching the tie it cannot be helped and we are still confident of progressing,” said Lewis.

Penrhyncoch are in fine form having pulled away from the league basement with victories over relegation threatened Queens Park and Llandudno Junction in recent weeks.

“They were tough games against sides battling for their lives,” said Lewis. “Full credit to our lads for their performances.”

Despite pulling away from the relegation zone the Penrhyncoch manager insisted his side would not be resting on their laurels.

“We have opened a gap between ourselves and Caersws and want to build on that between now and the end of the season,” said Lewis. “Nobody knows how many clubs are going down so we must keep working hard and hopefully climb the table.”

The Roosters go into the weekend cup clash with a depleted squad with Lewis likely to be forced to name himself among the substitutes.

“We are down to 12 for Saturday and while that is not ideal I have every confidence in the lads who put on the shirt to do a good job for the club. It’s another big game and one we are all looking forward to.”
