Caernarfon Town 5 Caersws 3

CAERSWS staged a determined second-half comeback in vain as Caernarfon Town took another step toward the title.

The damage was done inside the opening half an hour with Caernarfon seizing upon the villagers lethargic start.

David Jones was tested by Jamie Breese inside the opening minute before the deadlock was broken 10 minutes later with Gareth Edwards heading home Nathan Craig’s corner.

Lance Jones spurned an immediate chance to level for the Bluebirds who were soon punished as Jamie Crowther lofted a weighted shot over Jones to double the lead on 17 minutes.

Beanpole defender Edwards completed his brace on half an hour with another headed effort from Craig’s corner to leave Caersws facing a mammoth task.

Home favourite Darren Thomas got in on the act with five minutes remaining of the half with a low 12 yard shot past Jones after good work by Danny Brookwell.

However Caersws had the final say of the half with Aron Hughes-Jones converting a cross from Steve Blenkinsop.

Jones denied Thomas as Caernarfon looked to maintain their dominance after the break.

Instead the villagers reduced the arrears with Blenkinsop capitalising on rare hesitancy in the home ranks to net on 53 minutes.

Just two minutes later the hosts restored their three goal cushion with Breese latching onto Crowther’s throughball to slot home and effectively settle the outcome

Jones was kept busy with the Caersws stopper producing top drawer saves to deny Shaun Cavanagh and Thomas.

However the Bluebirds weathered the storm and ended the match on top with Craig Harris further reducing arrears with 10 minutes remaining.
