Newtown 188 all out beat St Georges 147 all out by 41 runs

TOM Anderson starred with bat and ball as Newtown celebrated a richly deserved 41 run victory at home to St Georges.

The former Welshpool ace underlined his class with a spirited middle end knock of 27 to help Town to 188 to defend before leading the bowling attack with 3-25.

Town opened the batting and lost two cheap wickets with Tom Goodman caught by Matt Chesters for 18 off Neil Davies who also despatched Ryan Davies (9).

Matthew Knight was joined by Tom Foulkes in reviving the top order.

Knight was finally caught by Chesters off Davies for a top scoring 37 with Davies completing hos 4-19 with the removal of Jack Morris (15) while Foulkes was trapped LBW by Chris Miller (1-23) for 35.

Azaad Rafiq (3-25) restricted Town’s middle order with the exception of Anderson who worked the scoreboard until falling for 27 with Ben Byram (2-34) polishing off the tail end to leave the hosts defending 188.

Anderson (3-25) tore through the top order on reply before Martin Delaney offered middle order resistance.

However wickets continued to tumble with Miller caught by Sam Cooke off Ally Laird for 17 while Amer Hussain was caught by Anderson off John Anthony (1-16) for 16.

Laird completed his 3-36 with Delaney caught by Goodman for a top scoring 60 before Dave Anthony (2-28) removed the tail end to complete the Saints fall for 147 as Town celebrated a second win of the season.
