MORE than 500 children took part in the South Powys Schools Kwik Cricket tournament held over three days across the region.

The three day tournament was organised by Cricket Wales, Powys Sports and Brecon and Builth Wells high schools with 52 teams taking part.

Dyffryn y Glowyr of Ysytradynlais saw off the challenge led by Brecon sides Cradoc and Mount Street along with Llanbedr of Crickhowell to win the Brecknock event held at Brecon Cricket Club.

The Ystradgynlais school also won the 12 team girls event.

Meanwhile Llanelwedd A beat its B team as well as Irfon Valley and Radnor Valley to win the Radnorshire event at Builth Wells Cricket Club.

Cricket Wales community coach Terry Dickson said: “The focus is participation while showcasing the new skills learned.

“The response this year has been incredible and our thanks go to the teachers for supporting the children into taking part.

“We wish those representing Powys all the very best in the finals in Cardiff.”
