Welshpool 198 all out beat Alberbury 145 all out by 53 runs
WELSHPOOL completed a 53 run derby victory over Alberbury in division one of the Henshalls Shropshire League.
Despite the cheap dismissal of opener Paul Chapman, snared LBW by James Bird (1-37) for four the Pool innings was led by Nick Davies.
Davies was joined in a 57 run second wicket partnership with Joe Monk before the latter was caught by Mark Jones off James Harrap (1-52) for 19.
Davies continued to work the scoreboard in a 20 run third wicket partnership alongside captain Russell Cadwallader before departing to Andy Holloway for a top scoring 40 with Pool 87-3.
Cadwallader led the Pool middle order before being caught by Dan Leach off Steve Morris (2-14) for 33 with the hosts 120-5.
However Patrick Davies (15) and Dan Chodecki (8) both departed in quick succession to Sam Morris (2-32) to leave Pool on 149-8.
Matt McWhinnie starred in a spirited tail end display with an unbeaten 39 to guide Welshpool to 198 to defend.
McWhinnie removed James Harrap for a duck before Adam Lawrence fell to Monk (1-30) as Alberbury suffered an indifferent start to their reply.
Mike Crawshaw was joined by Leach in a 57 run third wicket stand to revive the innings before the latter fell to Patrick Davies for 23.
Alberbury’s run rate was curbed with Patrick Davies (3-31) joined by Robert Anderson (1-21) in restricting the middle order before Crawshaw was caught by Tom Bowen off Chapman for a top scoring 41 to leave Alberbury 121-6.
Alberbury suffered a collapse with the cheap loss of James Wynne and Steve Morris before Chapman completed his 3-17 with Holloway caught by Nick Davies for a duck.
McWhinnie (2-17) finished what he started as Jones was caught by Cadwallader for 17 with Alberbury all out for 145 to complete Pool’s 53 run victory.
