Newtown 139 all out lost to Quatt 251-9 by 112 runs

NEWTOWN’S miserable start to the season continued with a 112 run defeat at Quatt in the Henshalls Premier Shropshire League.

James Ralph and Ryan Wheldon’s opening wicket 117 run stand laid the foundations for Quatt.

Ralph was caught behind by Sam Cooke off Bryant Galpin for a top scoring 83 before Wheldon was caught by Ryan Davies for 62.

Galpin completed his 3-37 by trapping Terry Hughes LBW for 37 to leave Quatt 193-3.

John Anthony (4-60) restricted the middle order while brother David (1-63) toasted the prize wicket of Oliver Plant for 29.

Craig Jones was caught by Tom Foulkes off Jack Morris (1-55) to leave Jon Edwards (12no) to guide Quatt to a commanding 251-9 to defend.

Newtown were soon on the ropes in reply with Wheldon (2-21) bowling Matthew Knight for 22 and Ryan Davies for a duck.

Craig Jones (2-8) snared Tom Goodman LBW for a top scoring 33 before promptly completing his haul with Jack Morris caught by Plank for a duck to leave Town 73-4.

Town lost regular wickets with Cooke run out by Alex Biddle for eight before Ally Laird (13) and the dogged Foulkes (27) both fell to Plank (2-21).

Danny Foulkes (13) led the tail end resistance before joining Galpin and the Anthony brothers in departing to Gareth Jones (3-19) to complete Newtown’s demise for 139.
