BUILTH Wells endured a day to forget with a nine wicket defeat at home to Kington in division one of the GB Liners Marches League.

Captain Sam Williams guided Builth to 72-4 before being caught by Rob Protheroe off Mike Green (2-21) for 32 with Ezra Tattersal (34no) defying Dan Fenwick-Lofts (3-25), Sam Roberts (2-37) and Bryan Kirkham (2-23) in guiding his side to just 143 to defend.

In reply Kington opener Green was caught by Andrew Claridge off Williams (1-28) for a top scoring 54 before Protheroe (45no) was joined by Ben George (33no) in an unbroken second wicket stand to guide Kington to 144-1 in 17 overs to complete an emphatic win.

Meanwhile Presteigne strolled to a 144 run win at home to Moccas to maintain their bright start to their division three campaign.

Nick Layton (46) and Mark Ammonds (34) laid the foundations before Alan Stocker (68no) led the hosts to a 212 to defend.

Ryan James (3-67), Matt James (2-44) and Oli Price (2-14) led Moccas’ wicket haul.

Aaron Powell (3-11) was joined by James Wilson (2-22), Neil Powell (2-14) and Lee Traylor (2-1) in skittling Moccas for 68 in reply with John Davies (17) top scoring for the Herefordshire side.

Elsewhere Builth Wells IIs were held to a battling draw at Ledbury IIs.

Chris Ritchie (90) starred for the hosts who claimed 34 yielded extras to close on 205-7 with Eurig Towns (4-36) and Gareth Sterry (2-33) leading the Bulls attack.

Ian Morgan (30) and Stuart Cripps (45) laid solid foundations in reply before Maurice Embrey (3-38) and Harry Eales (2-31) sparked a middle order wobble in the Builth ranks.

Sterry (22no) and Cripps led the tail end resistance only for the latter to fall to Simon Watkins (2-30) for 31 to leave Cameron Beehan (1no) to join Sterry in seeing Builth to 167-9 and a draw to maintain their solid start to the summer.
