Newtown 103 all out lost to Sentinel 253-6 dec by 150 runs

NEWTOWN crashed to a heavy 150 run defeat at Sentinel in the Henshalls Premier League.

The hosts set the foundations for a massive 253-6 to defend with a 78 run opening wicket stand between Ben Matthews and Steve Gray.

The pair fell in quick succession with Matthews trapped LBW by Ally Laird (1-44) for 50 while Gray was caught by Jack Morris off Bryant Galpin for 26.

However Sentinel were soon working the scoreboard with an 80 run third wicket partnership led by Jamie Wear before departing to Galpin (2-29) for 67.

Dave Anthony (2-90) sparked a brief wobble with Niall Salisbury (25) and Ed Ashlin (0) both caught by Sam Cooke.

Malcolm Serplet steadied Sentinel and pushed the home side to 224 when caught by Ryan Davies off John Anthony (1-36) for 29.

Tom Matthews (38no) and George Cheshire (11no) combined in an unbroken eighth wicket stand to guide Sentinel to a massive 253-6.

Tom Goodman was joined by Aaron Knight in a 42 run opening wicket stand in reply.

Knight was caught and bowled by Serplet (1-24) for 14 to spark a collapse as Dominic Bradburne (4-18) tore through the Town order.

Goodman was finally caught by Wear off George Cheshire (4-21) to leave Newtown on 96-7 with Sentinel making light work of the tail end to complete the Welsh side’s demise for 103.
