Newtown 49 all out lost to Worfield 51-3 by seven wickets
NEWTOWN endured a disappointing opening to their home programme in a seven wicket defeat to Worfield.
Town struggled with the bat throughout and were left defending 49 after being put to the sword by Ian Simmons (4-15) and Ben Parker (3-12) with support from William Fox-Davies (1-18) and Ryan Quiney (1-1).
Tom Foulkes top scored with eight with a majority of Town’s runs yielded from extras.
Worfield were led to glory inside 13 overs in reply with Oliver Gilks carrying his bat.
Despite opener Tom Whitney being caught by Sam Morris off John Anthony (1-30) and Harry Sage bowled for a duck by Tom Anderson the Worfield batting order soon closed on their paltry target.
Gilks (14no) was joined by Tom Pickerill before the latter was trapped LBW for 10 by Anderson (2-11) to leave Piers Rouwenhurst (2no) to form an unbroken fourth wicket stand and guide Worfield to glory in the 13th over.
