Newtown 121 all out lost to Cound 171 all out by 50 runs
NEWTOWN endured a losing start to the season with a 50 run defeat at Cound.
Graham Trow helped Cound to a steady start before departing for 32 to John Anthony to spark a middle order collapse.
Town debutants Tom Anderson (3-25) and Bryant Galpin (3-51), with support from Anthony (2-47), reduced the hosts to 85-7 when Adam Williams rescued Cound with tail end resistance supported by Iwan Morgan (18) and Tom Quaraishi (11).
Williams was caught by Sam Morris off Ally Laird (1-38) for 59 off just 69 deliveries to leave Cound all out for 171.
Opener Chris Bound fell to Williams for a duck in reply with Town soon on the ropes at 53-5 with Quaraishi (2-20) removing Jack Morris (23).
Laird led middle order resistance before before being caught by Dan Griffiths off Williams (3-49) for 32 to leave Town on just 88-6.
Graham Trow (3-12) made light work of the remaining Town order and despite the best efforts of Anderson (15) and Anthony (19) the Welsh side fell for 121 in the 35th over.
