RUSSELL Cadwallader will captain Welshpool in this season’s Henshalls Shropshire League One campaign.

The wily veteran will be supported by vice-captain Matt McWhinnie in efforts to bring success to Maesydre.

Cadwallader takes over from all rounder Tom Anderson whose 544 runs and 35 wickets last season earned a switch to Newtown in the Shropshire Premier League,

Fellow batsman Matt Knight has also made the move up the A483 to join Newtown.

However Pool have been bolstered with the return of several players to the fold with Dave Whitehouse, Chris Proctor, Nathan Baines, Rhys Williams and Ryan Preston all back in contention.

Cadwallader will look to Paul Chapman, Nick Davies, Dan Chodecki and Dale Evans for support with the bat as the order looks to fill the boots left by Anderson.

The bowling will be spearheaded by Worcester University pace bowler Joe Monk and while Rob Anderson will look to improve on his 44 wickets claimed in 2017.

Young all rounders Tom Bowen and Ronnie Bowen will also look to continue their development.

Meanwhile the second team will be skippered by Jordan Harding who has recruited a number of players to strengthen and will be supported by vice captain Rupert Redway.

Club spokesman Steve Monk said: “Both sides hope to consolidate this season.

“We are confident of being competitive again this season.”
