THE WORLD Enduro Championship, which attracted thousands of people to Mid Wales last weekend, could be returning in 2010 say the organisers.
The fifth stage of the competition took place at Llanidloes and attracted around 10,000 people according to Rowan Jones, vice chairman of Hafren Dirt Bike Club - the organisation which brought the event to Llanidloes.
Jones was delighted with the way the event went and said the WEC organisers have expressed an interest in returning to Llanidloes.
He said: "We are very, very pleased with the way it went. We had a lot of positive feedback from riders and spectators and the town in general. Llani was buzzing."
"The WEC organisers were very impressed. They have sounded us out to see if we would like to hold it in two years time. It was a really successful event and some well respected people in motorbike circles said it was the best event they had been to."
However Jones revealed the club's committee has yet to sit down and assess the event to decide if it can hold another in future. In particular Jones said funding remains a big issue.
He said: "We haven't even had a chance to sit down as a club and see how it went. Our biggest difficulty was funding it. The problem over here is everything is so expensive to do as opposed to in Europe. One of the Portugal event's organisers reckoned they could organise three events for the cost of ours."
Of the local riders that took their place in the 130 strong field Llani's Robert Jones enjoyed an excellent ride in the E1 category, claiming 10th and 14th.
In the E2 category Llanidloes rider Tim Forman and James Kawasaki just missed out on the points with 21st and 22nd positions.
Top local rider in the E3 class was yet another Llanidloes rider, Edward Jones who ended up 15th and 16th with two solid rides.
In the juniors Gethin Price from Hundred House and Knighton's David Brick found things tough but put in a great effort, with Brick claiming 20th place and his first WEC point on the second day.
Jones thanked everyone who helped organise the event and local landowners.
