WELSHPOOL Ladies Hockey Club carry the hopes of a region when they take on the cream of South Wales in this weekend's national hockey finals in Cardiff.
The North Wales League club have enjoyed the best season in their history and victory over UWIC on Saturday would pit them against Howardians or the mighty Swansea in Sunday’s Welsh Cup final.

Despite travelling as massive underdogs spokesperson R
achel Pritchard insists their North Wales League Cup success and forthcoming European play-off could inspire Welshpool to cause a shock this weekend.

“This is the biggest weekend in the history of Welshpool Hockey Club,” said Pritchard. “To have even reached this stage has already exceeded our wildest expectations.

“At the start of the season we targeted the last eight of the Welsh Cup as a realistic benchmark so anything we do now will be a bonus.

“There are no points or European places available from winning the Welsh Cup so this weekend is all about pride and glory.”

Welshpool travel to Cardiff with a full-squad brimming with confidence under the captaincy of Ceri Chapman.

Jacqui Davies and Caroline Jones add experience to the ranks with Welshpool looking to utilise their brood of youngsters against the South Wales giants.

“The young girls in the team have over five years of experience from playing competitive hockey so they will know exactly what to expect this weekend,” added Pritchard. “They have played superbly throughout a long and hard season and they are all focused on beating UWIC on Saturday which will mean a place in the final.

Swansea are considered the favourites to lift the Welsh Cup ahead of the semi finals.
