BUILTH Wednesdays manager Colin Davies has backed his young charges to improve next season.
Wednesdays made a good impression in their debut season, while fulfiling their charge of producing players for Builth Wells FC.
“Next season, we need to maintain what we did last year and hopefully progress,” said Davies.
“We’ve started trainin
g already and I think the players understand how hard it is to play in this league now.
“They don’t need fitness training, it’s more along the lines of tactical and technical work, but they’re a good bunch of lads and very keen so I can’t see why they can’t improve.”
He said: “Three or four of them came through last season and I think we should be seen as a stepping stone.
“Hopefully the same will happen next year and they can go on further when they become more confident and become physically stronger.”
The lack of a youth team in Builth Wells means the role of Builth Wednesdays as a bridge between junior and senior level is identified.
Davies added: “When players come here they can automatically play football, and if they’re good enough then they’ll stay in the team.”
“Our club’s future depends on where the seniors go, if they’re able in the next three or four years to get promotion to the Spar Mid Wales League we’ll automatically become the reserve team which remains our aim.
“They seem to be looking towards younger players so it’ll be a few years before that could happen but in the meantime Wednesdays will keep blooding players.”
