GARETH Davies struck a second-half brace as Newbridge overcame Waterloo Rovers at Penbont Field.
The Welshpool visitors were made to pay for missed chances by a ruthless Newbridge with Davies the hero.

Home goalkeeper Eifion Price superbly turned away Will Pritchard’s effort inside the opening 20 minutes.

Newbridge broke the deadlock with Tom Rowlands scrambling home a Christian Jones cross just five minutes later. Jamie Cuss then struck the bar for Newbridge before his 41st minute throughball released Christian Jones to drill home.

The hosts sealed victory with two goals early in the second-half following defensive mistakes with Davies and Darren Jones capitalising.

Despite Scott Holly blasting home a consolation for Rovers with 20 minutes left it was the hosts who had the final word. Darren Jones squared for Davies with the Bridge midfielder firing past a stranded Gareth Ashley from 20 yards.

Newbridge chairman Pip Samuel said: “The final score was probably a tad flattering but we played good football and thoroughly deserved to win.
