NEWTOWN are still waiting for their first points of the season after a disappointing home bow against Airbus UK.
Tom Rowlands slotted home Mark Cadwallader's low cross after 20 minutes to break the deadlock and give the Wingmakers a deserved lead.

Newtown had struggled to find a foothold in the game in the first-half with Airbus eager to atone for their opening weekend reverse at Prestatyn Town.

Newtown goalkeeper Dave Jones was forced into action to deny Rowlands early on while striker Paul Hallows drilled just wide moments later.

The inevitable breakthrough arrived on 20 minutes with the impressive Wes Kilgannon splitting the Robins’ defence to release Mark Cadwallader on the right with his low cross slotted home by a waiting Rowlands.

The former Heswall striker slotted home a second before the end of the half but was pulled up by referee Phil Southall, who had already whistled for offside.

Newtown manager Darren Ryan rung the changes at the interval and threw on Mattie Lewis and defensive lynchpin Hugh Clarke.

Newtown created clear cut chances for the first time in the game with Neil Mitchell slotting wide as his wait for his first league goal for his new club continued.

Newtown continued to place the Wingmakers under the cosh with the visitors’ Phil Palethorpe gratefully smothering Gavin Cadwallader's 20 yard blast.

Richard Williams-Cook glanced a header agonisingly wide as Newtown continued to search for an equaliser.

A rare second-half chance for Airbus UK with five minutes remaining forced Dave Jones to tip away Phil Molyneux's long range rasper.

The match ended on a sour note when Mark Cadwallader received two quickfire bookings to receive his marching orders.

Newtown manager Darren Ryan said: "We paid the price for a poor first-half when we just did not get going. Airbus are a decent side and play attractive football but this is a game we should be winning to be honest.

"I felt we did a lot better in the second-half when we changed things around with Richard Williams-Cook going up front but we still lacked any penetration.

"It is still early in the season so there is no reason to panic but this result highlights our need to further strengthen."

The Robins were linked to Welsh Premier all time goalscoring record holder Marc Lloyd-Williams who has since signed for Porthmadog, while striker Tommy Mutton quit for Gap Connah's Quay.

"We need to bring in a striker and perhaps a wide player and we are making moves to strengthen these areas," added Ryan.
