RHAYADER'S season opened with a heavy defeat at home to defending champions Aberystwyth at Bryntirion.
Opener Andrew Price (114) hit a fine century for the Seasiders before being joined by Yatin Sardana (49) in a 140 run stand for the third wicket.

Aberystwyth closed for a massive 200 and left Rhayader with a mountain to climb in reply.

Rhayader’s task became even tougher when they lost opener and last year’s captain Dylan McPhee for a duck in the first over of the innings.

Paul Rowe (29) was joined by Aaron Jones in fending away the Seasiders onslaught which was led by Anthony Evans.

Evans (5-14) tore through the top order with Sion Francis claiming three wickets to account for the tail end.

Skipper Rowe said: “It wasn’t an ideal start to the season, but there were some positives and we aim to build on them in future weeks.”
