CRAIG Moses fired Newtown into the top eight after stunning Port Talbot Town at the Genquip Stadium.
A lively opening at Port Talbot included Newtown defender Hugh Clarke making a goalmouth block to deny Lee John inside the first minute.
However it was the visitors who snatched a dramatic ninth minute lead with Neil Mitchell steering home after M
oses was denied by Kris Rogers.
Mitchell repaid the favour nine minutes later by releasing Moses to drill home and give Newtown a dream start.
A stunned Port Talbot finally asserted themselves on the game and on 31 minutes Martin Rose forced a superb save from David Jones.
However Newtown continued to threaten with Talbot goalkeeper Rogers intervening to punch clear an in-swinging corner from Adam Worton.
The hosts were back in the game within two minutes of the start of the second-half with Rose the goal hero.
Rose engineered space in the box to find Matthew Thompson who quickly laid the ball off for Rose to pounce and convert his fifth goal of the season.
Newtown continued to create openings with the dangerous Mitchell seeing his header saved by Rogers who also turned away Gavin Cadwallader’s rasping effort on the hour.
Dave Jones also proved his worth with a handful of saves as Port Talbot pressed forward in search of an equaliser.
The dangerous Lee John unleashed a ferocious shot for Jones to turn away with eight minutes remaining of a thrilling clash.
With seconds remaining Jones was again called into action to smother a 20 yard free-kick from Darren Davies and deny the Steelmen a share of the spoils.
