Newtown in seventh heaven after cup rout

NEWTOWN outclassed Caernarfon Town as they opened their Loosemores League Cup campaign with a 7-1 victory.
Neil Mitchell began the rout on 20 minutes before Gavin Cadwallader scrambled Newtown further ahead just five minutes later.

Mike Jones put through his own net on the stroke of half-time as Newtown opened an unassailable lead.

d his brace after the break with Barry Bellis scoring a memorable individual goal before Danny Jellicoe rifled home from 25 yards.

Paul Addo netted a consolation for Caernarfon but Newtown had the final say with Mattie Lewis nodding home.

Elsewhere TNS opened their Loosemores Cup campaign with a comfortable 2-0 victory at Gap Connah’s Quay.

A goal in each half from John Toner secured the Saints opening game win.

Meanwhile Caersws remain unbeaten after Ross Jefferies’ late winner sealed a 3-2 win at Porthmadog.

Caersws had trailed to a Ben Ogilvey header on 30 minutes but were level at the break through Chris Melia.

Caersws were ahead just seven minutes into the second-half with former Porthmadog favourite Dave Hughes netting from 20 yards.

Porthmadog scrambled a 78th minute equaliser through Mark Thomas but the Bluebirds regained their lead in the match less than a minute later.

Hughes’ 30 yard blast cannoned off the woodwork with Jefferies pouncing to net the winner.
