A LAST minute goal from Sergiy Kozyhberda gave FC Suduva the upper hand at half-time in The New Saints UEFA Cup qualifying tie.
TNS had looked set to earn a creditable 0-0 draw, but as full-time approached Kozyhberda popped up at the far post to claim the all important breakthrough.

The move started with Bobi Bozhinovski picking the ball up on the right and whipping the ball across goal where both Ivans Lukjanovs and Ramunus Radavicius cleverly dummied the ball allowing it to run through to Kozyhberda, who lashed past Paul Harrison in the TNS goal from eight yards out.

The goal was harsh on TNS, who despite, being pressurised for the majority of the match had, defended well and always looked capable of snatching a goal on the counter attack.

The Saints' best chance of the match had come midway through the first half when Michael Wilde blasted narrowly wide following good work from the trio of Steve Beck, Jamie Wood and Barry Hogan.

Radavicius had earlier wasted two good chances to put Suduva ahead, the first when he fired over from 12 yards out 26 minutes in, and the second when Harrison saved bravely at the feet of the striker.

Ivans Lukjanovs also missed a fine chance from point blank range after Radavicius had delivered the ball from the right.

With the pressure mounting as the first half drew to a close Suduva again went close thanks to good combination play from Radavicius and Baravicius.

TNS' only other chances of the first period fell to Wilde and Scott Ruscoe, but both failed to take advantage leaving the score level at half time.

The second half followed a similar pattern with a combination of resilient defending from TNS and poor finishing from the hosts keeping the match goalless.

Bhozinovski came close to breaking the deadlock with a free kick, which Harrison did well to save and the ex-Liverpool trainee was again called upon to save a goal bound header from Tomas Mikuckis.

However despite looking set to bring Suduva back to Newtown's Latham Park with the score level, Kozyhberda struck to ensure the Lithuanian's will enjoy a narrow but vital advantage.
