MONTGOMERYSHIRE were outclassed in Brymbo as Denbighshire steamrollered their way to a record equalling 182 run victory.
However skipper Dylan McPhee hit out at three controversial LBW decisions, which saw his side fall from 51-1 to 57-4 in quick succession.
“We are not happy with the umpiring, which certainly affected the fate of our innings,” said McPhee.
“I’m
certainly not saying we would have won the game otherwise but the decisions definitely affected our innings.”
Montgomeryshire enjoyed early success when Mark Jons caught Gerallt Lyall behind for a duck off Rob Birch.
Adam Campion and Nick Flack were both dropped early in a second wicket 90 run partnership, which saw Denbighshire back on track.
Flack was caught for 47 at deep square leg by Simon Jones before Campion was bowled for a finely crafted 43 by Adrian Foulkes (2-113).
Denbighshire unleashed teenage sensation David Lloyd and the 16-year-old underlined his calibre with an unbeaten century to push his side onto a massive 214.
His partner in a crucial 92 run fourth wicket stand was Will Evans who was caught at fine leg by Foulkes off McPhee for a rapid 51. Knocks from John Parry (22) and Gareth Rigden (17) helped steer Denbighshire to 304-6 at close.
McPhee (3-71) and Foulkes (2-113) were the pick of the visiting bowlers.
In reply Montgomeryshire looked well set after 17 overs with openers Mike Crawshaw and Stephen Davies forming a promising 51 run stand for the first wicket.
However Davies’ departure for a patient 13 signalled a collapse as Montgomeryshire crumbled to 67-4.
Controversy reigned as Joe Birch (0), Mark Jones (4) and Mike Bellamore (0) were adjudged LBW off Gary Rigden (5-20).
McPhee survived an appeal off the first ball but was soon back in the pavilion for 14 when caught by Flack off Lyall (5-16) as Montgomeryshire’s hopes capitulated.
Phil Lewis and Foulkes departed cheaply with the latter victim of a suicidal run after facing just one delivery.
Crawshaw had carried his bat well for 30 overs but he was caught by Campion off Lyall just one run short of a deserved half century.
Birch brothers Rob (25no) and and Sam Birch added 25 for the final wicket before the latter was bowled by Lyall in the 36th over to complete a miserable day for Montgomeryshire.
