THE 57th annual Welsh Two Day Enduro was held in monsoon conditions but failed to deter riders and spectators alike descending on Llandrindod Wells.
The 2008 event was dedicated to the memory of Kenny Williams – one of the stalwarts of Mid Wales enduro.

It was decided that the special stages at Abbeycwmhir would be known as the Kenny Williams test as a tribute to the long serving clubman following his tragic death in May of this year.

Hometown heroes Simon Bradford and Neil James won the expert sidecar class following a faultless performance over two days.

Llanbrynmair’s Graham Jones and Simon Brown were second while Llanidloes duo Dave Williams and Graham McPhee were third.

Swindon’s Craig Radford and Gareth Clarke won the sidecar clubman’s category with Llandrindod Wells duo Matthew Taylor and Nick Morgan crossing the line in a respectable second.

The sportsmans class was well contested with over 100 riders racing the famous course over two wet and windy days.

Ponytpridd’s Kevin Fletcher won the event with Builth Wells’ James Rees the top local - coming home in a respectable 12th.

Llandrindod Wells’ Keith Helliwell was 13th with fellow Spa town rider Mark Wilkie 17th.

Knighton’s Carl Davies was the top local in the over 40s with a respectable eighth spot after suffering indifferent form on the second day of competition.

Steve Plain of Taunton was the winner with a faultless performance and quick times on the special stages at Abbeycwmhir.

Caersws-based rider David Lloyd-Jones won the club E1 class with Nantmel’s George Wozencraft not too far away in fourth.

St Austell’s Mark Brewer won the club E2 class with the first local home Neil Highway of Llandrindod Wells in 23rd place.

Llandrindod’s Mike Jones was 25th while Simon Prince ended in 33rd spot respectively.

Presteigne’s David Gundy was the region’s sole representative in the club E3 class and ended a respectable 12th.

Machynlleth’s Rheinallt Davies won the expert E1 class despite the attentions of town rival Tudur Davies in third.

The expert E2 class also saw local interest at the head of the field with Knighton’s Mark Vaughan ending runner-up, Llandrindod’s Tom Knill fourth and Llanidloes’ Martyn Lewis in sixth.

Llandrindod Wells’ Shane Lewis won the experts E3 class with Knighton’s Carl Gerrard second and Rhayader’s Christian Walton ending a superb fourth.

Meanwhile Llanidloes’ Ed Jones was the top local in the championship class with a top five finish while cousin Robert Jones was sixth.
