NEWBRIDGE have completed the transfer coup of the summer by snapping up veteran defender Adriano Girolami.
The ex-Barry Town defender managed Presteigne to their first Spar Mid Wales League title in 2007 only to part company with the Llanandras Park club last season.
However Girolami is back in the Mid Wales League after being tempted to Penbont Field.
Chairman Pip Samuel said: “Adriano should provide invaluable experience to our young squad.
“He showed during his time at Presteigne that he is a top player and a natural leader and these are the qualities we hope can inspire us next season.”
The Bridgemen faded toward the end of last season as a season which promised silverware eventually petered out.
Samuel said: “Last season underlined how small our squad was compared to other sides in contention for silverware and to compete for honours we acknowledged we needed to strength the squad.”
Girolami will act as player coach following John Jones’ resignation at the end of the season, with Kevin Price continuing as manager.
“Adriano won the manager of the year and player of the season during Presteigne’s title winning campaign so we have no doubts he can perform both roles.”
Samuel added: “We have a young squad and they will benefit from the knowledge of working under Kevin and Adriano.
“Adriano is also keen to do all he can to help the club nurture through its crop of young players and prepare them for the high standards of the Mid Wales League.”
Meanwhile the new management team of Mike Symonds and Tom Ammonds are relishing their first season at Presteigne.
Ammonds said: “It was with a degree of trepidation we agreed to take over but now we are really looking forward to the season.
“We have a lot of players interested in signing for us next season and hopefully we can enjoy a positive pre-season in preparation for the new campaign.”
The club is reported to be tailing Knighton Town striker Mark Wozencraft and player of the season Sam Williams.
Ammonds said: “We are looking at plenty of players but nothing will be confirmed until the start of the transfer window.”
