A PRESTON Fletcher masterclass inspired Alberbury IIs to a much needed 38 run victory at local rivals Montgomery IIs.
With both sides languishing near the foot of the table victory was vital for both with Alberbury posting 106-9 to chase.

Elliot Brookes opened with a solid knock of 14 before skipper Stuart Eyres took control with a top scoring 33.

Simon Lewis (14) and Richard Holloway (10) contributed as Alberbury closed on 106-9 after 37 overs.

Mark Cadwallader (3-30) led the wicket haul, while Michael Williams (2-23) and Steve Gibbs (2-21) also chipped in.

Montgomery IIs struggled in reply with Fletcher tearing through the top and middle order to end on a stunning 6-22.

Jonathan Williams (14) and Brian Corfield (15) offered brief resistance but Gareth Phillips (1-17) and Darren Powell (3-8) polished off the tail.

Skipper Eyres said: “We've been very composed the last few weeks considering our league position but we should be a solid fourth or fifth from bottom.”
