FOUR Crosses have been demoted from the Spar Mid Wales League after being found guilty of fielding an ineligible player.
The Foxon Manor club were found guilty by the Welsh FA (FAW) last week with the Spar Mid Wales League deducting six points at a specially conveyed meeting on Tuesday evening.
The case revolves around midfielder Jamie Evans who is adjudged to have
illegally played for Crosses in two games at the end of the season.
The six point deduction plunged Four Crosses below Kerry in the final standings with the club officially relegated to J T Hughes Montgomeryshire League Honda Division One
Manager Mario Iaquinta has resigned with his assistant Norman Evans stepping up to take over full control of club affairs.
The club have also acted by folding its reserve team, which competed in J T Hughes Mont-gomeryshire League Mitsubishi Division Two last season.
Evans said: “Four Crosses Football Club accepts this decision by the Spar Mid Wales League.
“We could have appealed but at this stage of the summer we must be looking to the future and we have already lost players because of the uncertainty.
“Our aim now is to rebuild over the summer and hopefully be in a position to challenge for promotion back to the Mid Wales League.
“Unfortunately we have been forced to disband our reserve side due to a lack of players for next season but hope to re-form a second string as soon as possible.”
Spar Mid Wales League secretary Phil Woosnam insisted the league was left with little option following the FAW’s findings.
“We all sympathise with Four Crosses but the league simply had no choice but to deduct the six points,” he said
“The deduction of course means Four Crosses Football Club would end below Kerry in the final standings and would therefore be relegated to the Montgomeryshire League next season.
“As a league we sincerely hope Four Crosses can bounce back as a club and make a return to the Spar Mid Wales League in the future.”
The decision ends fears of a bumper 19 club league with Crosses now joining Llanidloes Town in the Montgomeryshire League.
Knighton Town were also relegated to the Watson Associates Mid Wales League (South).
Replacing them are Dyffryn Banw, Rhayader Town and Penparcau following their unanimous acceptance.
