BARRY Bellis and Marcus Sharrad bagged doubles as Waterloo Rovers suffered a day to forget at Latham Park.
Bellis opened the scoring from close range early in the first-half before Sharrad sensationally opened his account with a volley from Rob Bennett’s throw in.

The match was over by the interval when Martin Morgan was upended in the box and Bellis converted the resulting penalty kick.

Rovers lost striker Will Pritchard to injury in the second-half as Newtown sat back on their lead.

With seconds remaining Sharrad completed his brace with a calm finish after being released by Morgan.

Robins manager Danny Owen said: “It was an encouraging start and one we intend to build on.”

NEWTOWN RES: Havard, Powell, Thomas, James, McFadden, Astley, Keating, Bennett, Morgan, Bellis, Sharrad. Subs: Baker, Goodwin, Rowlands, L Evans

WATERLOO: Ashley, D Roberts, C Proctor, M Proctor, Foster, Williams, Heighway, Brookes, Holly, Pritchard, Frost. Subs: N Roberts, Hughes
